Minnesota Football Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 01:12:11 PST-

It wasn't so long ago when the Gophers had visions of playing in the Rose Bowl this season. Now they're just trying to hold onto the Alamo Bowl.

Three straight losses have left the Gophers readjusting their thinking. They will be going bowling somewhere—still a magnificent upgrade over last year's one-win season—but it won't be a New Year's Day bowl. Minnesota Football needs a victory over rival Iowa to ensure a best possible scenario. Right now, that looks like the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas (Dec. 29), the Insight Bowl in Phoenix (Dec. 31) or the Motor City Bowl in Detroit (Dec. 26).

"Those are the three scenarios for us," Gophers coach Tim Brewster said. "If we win the game (against Iowa), obviously we will improve our bowl status."

Doing that would mean...

Gophers expect Decker back for game against Iowa (AP)
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 13:09:29 PST-Minnesota Football wide receiver Eric Decker is expected to return to the lineup this week against Iowa. Decker missed the last game at Wisconsin and was limited to a handful of plays the previous week against Michigan because of an ankle injury suffered in the game against Northwestern on Nov. 1. One of 10 finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the best receiver in major college football, Decker...

Badgers make most of Gophers mistakes in 35-32 win (AP)
Sat, 15 Nov 2008 18:19:30 PST-

Minnesota Football safety Tramaine Brock (1) tackles Wisconsin wide receiver David Gilreath after a catch during the first half of an NCAA football game Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, in Madison, Wis.

For once, Wisconsin got to watch somebody else throw away a victory. After blowing their chance at a big-time bowl game with a pair of narrow losses to begin Big Ten play, the Badgers salvaged some pride by becoming bowl-eligible with a 35-32 comeback victory over mistake-prone Minnesota Football at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday.

Wed, 19 Nov 2008 08:08:15 GMT-For once, Wisconsin got to watch somebody else throw away a victory. And after a rougher-than-expected season, any bowl will do. The Badgers end the regular season next week against Cal-Poly.

Minnesota Football Notes, Quotes
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 07:20:07 GMT- ?? SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: Eric Decker's return should provide a huge lift to an offense that needs all the help it can get. The running game has been lacking all season, and there is little reason to think it will turn around against Iowa, which has a pair of nasty defensive tackles in Mitch King and Matt Kroul. RB Shady Salamon is beginning to take some carries away from DeLeon Eskridge, who seems to be fading as the season progresses.

Minnesota Football Strategy and Personnel
Wed, 19 Nov 2008 07:20:07 GMT- ?? THIS WEEK'S GAME: Iowa at Minnesota, Nov. 22 -- The Gophers will play their final game in the Metrodome against their rival in the battle for Floyd of Rosedale -- a bronzed pig. The Gophers drag a three-game losing streak into the regular season finale, while Iowa will try to prop up the slim Heisman hopes of tailback Shonn Greene. Greene leads the nation with 1,585 rushing yards, but seems to be getting trampled by Big 12 and SEC candidates in the Heisman race.
